2015 Subaru WRX STI Release Date
We recently told you about the Subaru lineup at the 2014 Tokyo Auto Salon, and now that the auto show has ended, we have all of the juicy details about many of the vehicles that were unveiled there. There is no doubt that the STI models were among the most anticipated, and from what we’re seeing, the models lived up to the hype. The unveiling of the new STI models has a lot of consumers excited for the 2015 Subaru WRX STI release date which is set to arrive sometime this spring. While we wait for the sedan to arrive, let’s take a look at all that it will include.
We’ll get right into the powertrain as we’re sure that the engine specs are what you’re here for. The 2015 WRX STI will receive the same 305-horsepower turbo four that has been found under the hood of the performance model for years. The return to the 2.5-liter Boxer engine is no surprise as it has always been a crowd-pleaser in the past.
The new additions to the WRX STI have been implemented to help the engine achieve maximum performance. One such addition is Active Torque Vectoring which joins already-proven handling systems such as Multi-Mode Driver Controlled Center Differential (DCCD) Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, Multi-Mode Vehicle Dynamics Control, and a Brembo Performance Brake system with Super Sport ABS.
As you can see in the pictures of the sedan, the World Rally Blue, gold painted wheels and oversized spoiler that have become staples of STI models have made a return for the all-new WRX STI. In addition, an STI badge is placed off-center on the front honeycomb grille of the performance-tuned sedan, helping to reiterate the fact that it is an STI.
There are also more subtle STI changes such as the addition of a special hood, fenders, doors and quarters, bumpers, headlights and taillight clusters. Similar to STI models in the past, the hood scoop is set deeper to allow the intercooler to breathe easier to achieve maximum performance.
Contrary to popular belief, the STI will not be offered as a hatchback, which is why we continue to refer to it as a sedan. In an effort to break from the Subaru Impreza and become its own model, Subaru dropped the Impreza name from the WRX and decided to drop the five-door hatchback model as well. There were rumors floating around that the STI would include a hatchback, but as we said, that is simply not true.
Unfortunately, when the 2015 Subaru WRX STI release date arrives, only 1,000 models will be made available. Therefore, if you’re looking to get your hands on one of these exclusive performance-tuned WRX models, we suggest you get in touch with us here at Briggs Subaru of Topeka, where we will be more than happy to see what we can do for you.
If you can do without the extreme horsepower but like the design of the WRX STI, we suggest you check out the 2015 Subaru WRX which will also get a spring release date.
