Subaru Boxer Engine

We’ve talked about the performance of the various Subaru Boxer engines in Subaru vehicles in previous model blogs and we love the performance and reliability our customers get when they purchase a new Subaru in Topeka, or even a used Subaru in Topeka, power by reliable Subaru Boxer engines.  This time we’re talking about the newest Subaru Boxer engine, found on the all-new Subaru BR-Z in Topeka, at Briggs Subaru of Topeka.  The 2.0L FA DOHC 4-cilinder in the BR-Z is naturally aspirated and produces 200-HP and 151-lb-ft of torque; that’s an outstanding 100-HP per liter.  Continue reading for more on this impressive addition to the Subaru Boxer ending lineup.

The BR-Z STI Concept

The Subaru Boxer engine has been taken to a new level of performance with the new 2.0L 4-pot, which gets its fuel-injection system from project partner Toyota.  This dual injection system combines conventional port injection for start-up and low-load cruise conditions with high-pressure direct injection.  The result is an engine with a high compressions ratio of 12.5:1 and maximum efficiency as the combination actually has a cooling effect on the engine.

One unique design feature of this new Subaru Boxer engine is its square architecture, meaning its bore and stroke are the same and allowing for the quick-revving and 7,400 rpm redline.  Talking about this Subaru Boxer engine Wards editors have this to say, “the lovely 2.0L naturally aspirated H-4…is a well refined beauty.”  With praise like that from the people who know engine best this new Subaru Boxer engine has plenty to look forward to in the coming years.

New Subaru in TopekaThe only question that remains for many is, “will there be a turbocharged version?”  The Answer isn’t as easy as yes or no, because yes there is a turbocharged version being used in the 2014 Forester model and no, that turbocharged version will not be offered in the BR-Z.  There simply isn’t enough room under its low-sleek hood to fit the extra components and doing so would through off the vehicles front-to-rear balance.

If you’d like to experience this impressive new engine you can schedule a test drive of the BR-Z, or the turbocharged version in the 2014 Subaru Forester, or just stop by our showroom and we’ll be happy to show you them both.  Be sure to ask about Briggs Rewards and thank you for choosing Briggs Subaru of Topeka.
